I started my career as a professional makeup artist, and for several years I had a bridal makeup studio in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was so much fun helping brides get gorgeous on their special day. In St. Petersburg, Florida (the birthplace of Celtic Complexion), I worked as a resident makeup artist at The Don Cesar, a very popular beach resort. It resembled a pink castle right on the sand.
The behind-the-scenes of a wedding day is so exhilarating to me!
Now that I am running Celtic Complexion full time, I have little time for bridal makeup , so I was so excited when Shelly Hartman of Hartman Outdoor Photography asked me to do the makeup for her styled shoot for The Barn & Gardens of Little Herb Garden in Raleigh. It was a bridal themed shoot to show off the incredible venue, which has a rustic-chic feeling.
When I saw the model, I fell in love! She was a walking, talking Celtic Complexion billboard, and didn’t even know it! Her beautiful pale skin was set off by her gorgeous red hair and incredible smile. I decided to give her a simply glam look with minimal products; Tinted Moisturizer (in Light) to even out her skin, Face Gloss in Boudicca (on her eyes), Face Gloss in Tralee (on her cheeks), Universal Pencil in Eostri (on her lower lash line), Milada lip liner, and Ceara Red lip stick.
Before that day, she never wore red lipstick in her life, but it looks as if it was made for her, don’t you think?
The beauty of a styled bridal photo shoot as opposed to an actual bridal day photo shoot, is the lack of stress. You can be more creative and not be afraid to take risks. For example, if this was Kelly’s real wedding day, she may have not been so open to trying a new lipstick color, but for the sake of art, I’m so glad she did!
Warmly,
Jennifer
